Bach: Christmas Oratorio

  • Sheldonian Theatre Oxford (map)

On 7 December 1896, the Oxford Bach Choir gave its first ever concert, performing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. Now, almost 125 years later to the day, we invite you to the Sheldonian to hear the OBC Anniversary Concert, with the period instrument ensemble Florilegium and four international soloists, recreate that special moment with a rare complete performance in German of Bach’s great cycle of six Christmastide cantatas, whose moods range widely from the exultant trumpets and drums of the opening and closing choruses to the pastoral music of the shepherds.
